False Positives

If you search through the Internet, you will see a lot of pictures, videos, and audio files of supposed evidence of paranormal activity. The vast majority of these "evidence" files are posted by novice "Ghost Hunters" who are either fooled, mislead, or misinformed or want to fool or mislead others. Some investigators and investigation teams will claim false positives in an effort to draw more attention to their websites or blogs. Some just cannot deal with the fact that you will not capture evidence on every singe investigation. We've had investigations that lasted over 4 hours and we got nothing. That's the true nature of paranormal investigations and research. Activity will not happen just because you are there.

Just as "spirit photography" damaged the credibility of possible evidence captured on film, and fraudulent séances destroyed the credibility of alleged true psychics, these pictures and videos being blasted all over the Internet and YouTube are tarnishing the credibility and reputations of hardworking and dedicated research and investigation groups.

If you are planning on getting into investigations and research, keep in mind that to capture evidence in pictures or on video is very rare. If it were so easy, somebody would have came up with an answer as to what exactly an entity is made of. Another good piece of advice is always look to the logical first. In most cases, there will be a logical explanation for an anomaly.

Below are some examples of false positives. These include orbs, vortexes, mists, and time shifts. Serious and professional research and investigation groups will not claim these phenomena as evidence unless it can be proven without a doubt that the evidence is real. Just remember the saying that
T.A.P.S. uses - "When in doubt, throw it out." If you don't, someone else will...along with your credibility.

Ghosts taking flight and leaving streaks of light behind them. NOPE. See picture below.

The picture above is of the exact location as the streamer picture. (Always take two pictures for comparison.) You can match up the lines or streaks to the light sources in the pic above. Slow shutter speed is responsible for the streaking.
